My name is Mike McClain. My wife’s name is Liz. On August 8th we will reach a milestone of being married for 40 years. The road has had it’s ups and downs but unlike a lot of marriages today, it has survived. Of course it didn’t start here so bear with me as I take a little time to reminisce.
I came into this world on December 27th 1949.( The least I could do was be a tax deduction!) At the age of 4 years old my parents decided that they had made a mistake and at that time decided to go their separate ways. My grandmother owned a home and having lost my grandfather to diabetes, took us in and took on the task of helping to raise a second family while my mother worked to support us.
The school years were some tough times growing up and there wasn’t a lot of money to supply not only the necessities, but hardly ever the extras. So at the ripe age of 15 I went to work in the evenings to help out. I worked in the kitchen of a local hospital thus dashing the dreams of playing professional baseball. I continued to work evenings through the high school years always somehow knowing there had to be a better way and spending less time doing it.
Then I met this long-haired blonde who swept me off my feet. We began dating, became engaged, and finally tied the knot on August 8th 1969. I had made up my mind long before this that my family was going to have a lot more than I had growing up. Like a lot of young couples starting out, we bit off a little more than we could chew and found ourselves living from paycheck to paycheck and sometimes beyond. We were living the normal life still knowing there had to be a better way.
Then my big break came in 1973, I went to work for a Bakery in the route sales department. I climbed the ladder of success quickly. Within 6 months I was promoted to a supervisory position. Things were going to turn around now! I transferred to Clearwater Fla. To run the operation there. Within a year I was promoted to the Branch Manager level in Atlanta Ga. Then the opportunity came to be promoted to the Sales Manager position only to have it squashed by typical Corporate America red tape.
We returned home to St. Louis in 1980. By then our three children were 9,8, & 4. We continued our voluntary work with children at our church. We had dreams of sponsoring needy children. We had dreams of sponsoring missionaries.
In 1985 I was introduced to a marketing idea that was going to that was going to revolutionize the world. If I worked hard enough I could build a team that would secure all of our dreams and then some. Five years later and going broke fast I had to make another decision. I became the owner of a route in the package delivery business. It was a good living but still did n ot fill all of our dreams.
We have been blessed over the years with five grandchildren. Two of our grandsons have been diagnosed as having slight to medium Autism. My family is the most important thing to me in this world. Seeing that they are cared for if the need arises is of utmost importance to me.
I began searching again for the answer to there has got to be a better way. I have invested in several OPPORTUNITIES from real estate to data entry to several investments that have not even been answered. Again several opportunities and dollars later I had almost decided to give up. Then I was introduced to the IIP Plan and my dreams are alive again and even more intense. I can see ourselves having the opportunity to fulfill our dreams of sponsoring children, missionaries, and securing our own families future no matter what the need.
